What is Veterinary Physiotherapy?

Veterinary Physiotherapists work alongside Veterinarians and other allied professionals in order to assess and treat muscular and neurological conditions. Equipped with the extensive knowledge of anatomy, the musculoskeletal and neuromotor system, this allows me to assist with pain management, the prevention of future injury and the restoration and promotion of optimum function and comfort for your animal.

In order to be an accredited Veterinary Physiotherapist, you must be a member of a governing body (such as the NAVP, IRVAP, RAMP, AHPR etc.) which ensures the highest level of competence and quality of work is upheld by its members. This is done by ensuring its members are constantly learning and continuing professional development. Unfortunately, the title 'veterinary physiotherapist' is currently not protected meaning anyone can claim the title regardless of qualification. It is therefore so important to check your physiotherapist holds all the necessary qualifications to provide an appropriate treatment. This can be done by checking various governing body search engines such as NAVP, IRVAP, AHPR, IAAT and RAMP.

Veterinary physiotherapists use an evidence based, scientific approach to treatment in order to provide an effective, science-supported therapy. Following the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966), it is a legal requirement that all animals receiving treatment require veterinary referral.

For every animal I treat, no matter how big or small, is treated with patience, empathy and integrity to the utmost best of my abilities in order to give you and your animal, the best experience possible. Happy animal = happy owner!
